Inner Quiet
Spiti is very close to the Chinese border. It is remote, silent and beautiful here this full moon evening. We have ridden our bikes through the lower Spiti valley to get to Tabo where our guest house awaits us with simple food under the silk of a supply parachute in the front garden.
The mountains have grown darker and the moon has just risen brilliantly in the clear mountain air.
Tabo Gompa has been here for over 1000 years. The adobe structures are so different to all the other Tibetan Buddhist Gompas that I have yet seen in Spiti and Ladakh and it is rare to find so many statues depicting past masters adorning the walls. They bring to life the gompa interior in a way that mural painted walls do not.
